>> so, what's in the health care bill that the house passed? perhaps the most controversial part of the bill is that it does contain the so-called public option. the government would sell insurance to those who can't find it elsewhere. but the congressional budget office predicts those premiums would be more expensive than insurance from private companies. other provisions of the bill would ban insurers from denying coverage to people because of pre-existing conditions. it also contains strict bans on using federal money to pay for abortions. democrats project the bill will extend health care coverage to 96% of americans. the vote was a defeat for house republicans, who stood almost completely united in the opposition to the bill. at least one gop member of the house says the outcome was not a surprise. appearing on our sister network, cnn, congressman michael burgess said he expected the bill to pass after president obama was

massacre. a texas sergeant says more of them are doing better. 42 people were injured in a shooting at the army post in texas thursday. army official says 16 of them and the suspected gunman are still hospitalized. >> all evidence at this point indicates that the suspect allegedly acted alone in the actual shootings at the readiness center on 5 november. we have seen no evidence whatsoever to date of any friendly fire occurrences during the gunfight between ft. hood law enforcement and the alleged suspect. >> major nidal malik hasan is not on a ventilator anymore. he is still in intensive care. meanwhile, the 13 people killed in the shootings is being honored. aaron thomas nemelka, scheduled to go to afghanistan, and his uncle read a statement

massacre. a texas surgeon says more of them are doing better. 42 people were injured in the shooting at the army post in texas thursday. an army official says 16 of them and the suspected gunman are hospitalized. >> all evidence at this point indicates the suspect allegedly acted alone. in the actual shootings at the readiness center on 5 november. we have seen no evidence whatsoever to date of any friendly fire occurrences during the gun fight between ft. hood law enforcement and the alleged suspect. >> major nadil malik hasan is no longer on a ventilator. friends and family honor the 13 killed in the shootings. one of them is 19-year-old private aaron thomas nemelka. he was scheduled to go to afghanistan in january and his uncle who is also in the military, read a family statement yesterday. >> aaron was intensely proud to serve under the leadership of

authorities have now identified seven victims found in or near sowell's home. the skull of an 11th victim was also found. while we're talking about snow in the west, meanwhile we have serious weather we're talking about in the southeast. let's check in with reynolds wolf for the latest on that. >> we're keeping a sharp eye on this storm. this is hurricane ida, it's category 1 storm. it's gusting to 115, moving between the yucatan peninsula and parts of cuba expected to move into the gulf of mexico. the latest path we have shows the storm veering to the north, gaining strength, becoming a category two, then moving off the coast of louisiana, then staying off the coast as you get into wednesday and back into thursday, just downgrading to a tropical storm and then to a depression. not expected to make landfall for the time being. that's not a time to be comfortable if you are along the gulf coast, louisiana, alabama, into florida. remember, the hurricane season ends at the end of november

indicates the suspect allegedly acted alone. in the actual shootings at the readiness center on 5 november. >> reporter: key to the investigation way be hasan's computer. at 2:37, thursday morning, 11 hours before the massacre, hasan called his next door neighbor, willy bell, and left a message asking him to turn on his wireless computer connection. bell ignored the call but three hours later he says hasan called back. >> he said will you please hook up your lap top. i said wow, you want me to hook up the lap top so my girlfriend hooked up the lap top. we didn't answer the phone. he left a message. >> reporter: two weeks before hasan locked bell out of his own wireless connection by changing passwords. >> for the last two weeks i couldn't get on the internet because i had to go to some kind of code. i didn't know what he dialed in but i couldn't get on.

>> reporter: bell says he surrendered his computer. he was questioned for four hours. investigators won't comment on whether they located all of the computers hasan used. he gave away these computer cases and the rest of his furniture to another neighbor but the only thing inside the computer bags were a few of hasan's business cards. at 6:30 a.m. the morning of the shooting hasan was seen on this video buying coffee and hash browns, later he was back at the apartment complex. this man says he saw hasan throwing things into this dumpster. investigators hauled the dumpster away friday morning. another potential source of information may be a man that neighbors saw visiting hasan the day before the rampage. alice sthom son was in her apartment when she saw hasan and the other man, unusual she says because he never seemed to have anybody over. she described the man as wearing muslim attire with dark skin and

you're watching hln news and views. i'm natasha curry. thanks so much for spending part of your weekend with us. the house of representatives pass add sweeping health care bill along mostly party lines. last night's vote was 220-215, with one republican voting for it. that vote came from first term louisiana republican joseph cao who holds a seat in predominantly democratic new orleans. 39 democrats crossed the aisle to vote against the bill. if it becomes law, the bill will represent the biggest expansion of health care coverage since medicare was created more than 40 years ago. house speaker nancy pelosi said the vote is a huge win for democrats. >> well, the democrats voted for the bill and a republican voted for the bill, that equals bipartisan. we're very proud to take responsibility and credit for this great victory because it was obviously largely with democratic votes. >> so, what's in the health care bill that the house passed?

perhaps the most controversial part of the bill is that it does contain the so-called public option. the government would sell insurance to those who can't find it elsewhere but the congressional budget office predicts those premiums would be more expensive than insurance from private companies. other provisions of the bill would ban insurers from denying coverage to people because of pre-existing conditions. the house bill contains strict bans on using federal money to pay for abortions. democrats project the bill will extend health care coverage to 96% of americans. the vote was a defeat for house republicans who stood almost completely united in opposition to the bill. at least one gop member of the house says that the outcome was not a surprise. appearing on cnn, congressman michael burgess says he expected the bill to pass after president obama was elected last year. he also said a single gop vote does not make this a bipartisan bill.

this is hurricane ida, category 1. it's gusting to 115, moving between the yucatan peninsula and parts of cuba expected to move into the gulf of mexico. the latest path we have shows the storm veering to the north, gaining strength, becoming a category 2 hurricane, then moving off right the coast of louisiana, then staying off the coast as you get into wednesday, and then back into thursday, just downgrading to a tropical storm, then a depression. not expected to make landfall for the time being. that's not a time to be comfortable if you are along the gulf coast, louisiana, alabama, into florida. remember, the hurricane season ends at the end of november so if you have that hurricane preparedness kit, you need to get it ready. the season's not over. this storm may come calling. what we'll see around the nation is pretty nice, in the southeast high pressure the feature which is is going to give you pretty nice conditions, plenty of blue skies, lot of sunshine, nice mild conditions through much of texas. when you get to the western half of the great lakes, scattered showers possible for the upper

we went to war, the sacrifice we made and the lives that were lost. we're fortunate to have somebody like harmon with us. he's living history. >> it's not as easy as it used to be. oh. i'm 87. i came on board may 12, 1942. the day they put it in commission. and i got off the ship september 12th, 1946. the day it went out of commission. i still maintain the five-inch gun so we can use them to fire for ceremonies. he takes it here. then you shoot. when i first got in the navy i had only been out of school for six months. it was the first time away from home. but i soon got used to it. to get to my battle station for the last two years, this was my general direction. i used to stay behind this

closed door, for hours after hours, any time we were in battle. it's loaded with 5,000 cans of powder in there. i felt it was a great ship and i was proud to serve on it. very few veterans of world war ii, they are all over 80 years old. not many left. that's one more reason preserve the ships so people will remember. it's worth preserving the ship. yeah, it's worth it. i think so. >> big mamie, as it's called, is one of the few remaining world war ii battleships and it is part of the world's largest collection of historical naval vessels. this is a group of kids who led the groundbreaking for a permanent national memorial to flight 93 yesterday. it's going to honor the crew and passengers who died in the september 11th crash in pennsylvania. one mother who lost her daughter

said it was a joyful day. >> i was thinking of my daughter who was the passenger on flight 93. what she would think of about today. and she would be very happy and proud that people will have a permanent memorial to come to, and remember her and her fellow passengers. >> organizers say they are going to push to make sure the memorial is completed by september 11, 2011, that's the 10-year anniversary of the terrorist attacks. one father just got to hug his daughter for the very first time in three decades. >> i never stopped looking. i never forgot about you ever. >> they looked for each other for years and years but found nothing. but then a little coincidence changed all of that.

woman with passion for the poor. sister marquerite bartz was killed. police arrested an 18-year-old suspect they say he broke into the nun's home to rob her. hurricane ida is picking up speed and could grow into a category 2 storm. it's roaring over the caribbean into the gulf of mexico. before heading toward the southern u.s. that is a check of sunday morning headlines. welcome back to hln. thanks for joining us. i'm natasha curry. investigators are combing through every piece of evidence they can find to answer a key question in the shooting spree at ft. hood. as ted rowlands reports, everyone wants to know why an army psychiatrist opened fire on his fellow soldiers. >> reporter: investigators say clues as to why the army psychiatrist, nidal hassan allegedly went on a shooting rampage are still being gathered, 170 witnesses and victims have been interviewed so far. although they believe he was the only shooter, they won't rule out that hasan may have had help. >> all evidence at this point

indicates the suspect allegedly acted alone. in the actual shootings at the readiness center on 5 november. >> reporter: key to the investigation way be hasan's computer. at 2:37, thursday morning, 11 hours before the massacre, hasan called his next door neighbor, willy bell, and left a message asking him to turn on his wireless computer connection. bell ignored the call but three hours later he says hasan called back. >> he said will you please hook up your laptop. i said wow, you want me to hook up the laptop so my girlfriend hooked up the lap top. we didn't answer the phone. he left a message. >> reporter: two weeks before massacre, hasan locked bell out of his own wireless connection by changing passwords. >> for the last two weeks i couldn't get on the internet because i had to go to some kind of code he had dialed in there.

i didn't know what he dialed in but i couldn't get on. >> reporter: bell says he surrendered his computer. he was questioned for four hours. investigators won't comment on whether they located all of the computers hasan used. he gave away these computer cases and the rest of his furniture to another neighbor but the only thing inside the computer bags were a few of hasan's business cards. at 6:30 a.m. the morning of the shooting hasan was seen on this surveillance video at a 7-eleven buying coffee and hash browns. later he was back at the apartment complex. this man says he saw hasan throwing things into this dumpster. investigators hauled the dumpster away friday morning. another potential source of information may be a man that neighbors saw visiting hasan the day before the rampage. alice thompson was inside her apartment when she says she sass hasan and the other man, unusual, she says, because he never seemed to have anyone over. she described the man as wearing muslim attire with dark skin and

bushy eyebrows and claims investigators seemed interested in him when she was questioned. >> if you see him again can you identify him? i said yes. >> answers could also of course come from hasan. he remains in critical condition at an army hospital in san antonio. ted rowlands, cnn, ft. hood, texas. >> police in cleveland identified three more of the ten bodies found in the home of a registered sex offender. anthony sowell served 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted rape in 1989. he was arrested two days after police discovered the first bodies in his home last week. authorities have now identified seven victims found in or near sowell's home. the skull of an 11th victim was also found. the "uss new york" built with steel from the world trade center is officially in service the ceremony took place yesterday on the hudson river pier. people in the crowd said it's a symbol of healing and strength.
